Social Relief of Distress (SRD)

The Constitution provides that everyone has the right to have access to social security, including if they are unable to support themselves and their dependents, appropriate social assistance.

Section 3 (2) (d) of the Military Veterans Act 18 of 2011, states that any policy regarding the affairs of the military veterans must be aimed at improving the quality of life of the military veterans

The department of Military Veterans has received an Executive Directive to provide Social Relief of Distress (SRD) to military veterans and or their dependents who are in need of a crisis intervention.  SRD means the alleviation of the need of persons by means of temporary or immediate rendering of material assistance.

Military Veterans who are in need, may apply for the benefit using the SRD application form and the Entity form. Once the forms are completed, supporting documents and the latest bank statement must be attached and forwarded to:

  • DMV at Head Office, or
  • Provincial Help Desk Consultants/Coordinators or
  • Fax to 0866584827 or
