Freedom Park to Host a Dialogue and a Memorial Lecture for the 40th Anniversary of the Maseru Raid

Freedom Park in partnership with the Military Veterans Department, will on 08 December 2022, host a commemoration event themed “Intergenerational Lecture on Maseru raids: Lerona Rebato. The event will include a wreath laying ceremony.

Speakers will include Freedom Park CEO, Ms Jane Mufamadi, Director in the Department of Military Veterans, Ms. Irene Mpolweni , Ms Betty Lesley of the Maseru Massacre Memorial Acres , Dr Otsile Ntsoane and many others.

The Maseru raids in 1982 and 1985 remain one of the tragic political episodes that wreaked the political destiny of the African Child. On these sad days freedom fighters and civilians were maimed by the Apartheid forces. Themed, “Intergenerational dialogue and memorial lecture on Maseru raid and massacre.

The struggle for liberation remains one of the most tedious historical epochs in Africa’s political trajectory. The banning of liberation movements in the 1960 marked exodus of liberation fighters from South Africa to neighboring countries. Lesotho remains one of the countries in which the liberation movements sought political refuge; consequently, leading to a constant cross-border military attacks to neighboring countries such as Lesotho by the apartheid forces.
