The Department of Military Veterans is reviewing the funding model on education support to make it more effective, efficient and sustainable.
This follows amongst others the National Treasury cut of 5% in government departments as part of reprioritizing and prudent expenditure. The R660M allocation to the DMV has being cut by R33M for the financial year 2018/19. The Department is still committed to assisting military veterans in dire economic situations.
The main objective of the measures being introduced, is to ensure that as many Military Veterans and their dependents continue to be provided with education support within the available resources. The DMV will announce at its media briefing, measures to be undertaken to manage this situation as it relates to basic and higher education.
These measures where agreed upon in a consultative meeting held between the Ministers of Defence & Military Veterans, the South African National Military Veterans Association (SANMVA), and its eight affiliates on 17th January 2018 in Pretoria.
