The Verification of Military Veterans to be resumed

14 April 2014

The Department of Military Veterans will embark on a resumption of the national Military Veteran’s verification of non-statutory forces process over the period 15 April -  14 May 2014 at the South African Infantry Battalion (10 SAI) in Mafikeng at 10h00.

The creation of a credible database for Military Veterans is critical in ensuring an effective, efficient and seamless delivery of the benefits as outlined in the Section 5 of the Military Veterans Act 18 of 2011. The Department of Military Veterans call all Military Veterans from the non-statutory forces to take advantage of this opportunity and come forward to be verified so as to be able to access their benefits.

All formations of non-statutory forces such as the MKMVA, APLAMVA as well as AZANLAMVA are called upon to cooperate with the Department of Military Veterans, in ensuring success of this important project. The aim of the verification process is to make it possible for Military Veterans not registered in the database to confirm their status for listing in the national Military Veterans’ database.

In 2013, the Department of Military Veterans embarked on a project to verify bona fide Military Veterans from Non-Statutory Forces (NSF), who were neither integrated nor demobilized in 1994. The first phase of the verification process in 2013/14 focused on Gauteng province where more than 200 Military Veterans were captured on the database. The second phase of this process will take place in all other provinces supported by the Department of Defence (DOD). This commenced in April 2014 and will end in December 2014.
