Military Veteran, Hermanus "James Steward" Loots Has Passed On

27 January 2016

It is with shock and sadness that the Department of Military Veterans and indeed the Military Veterans's community as a whole received the news of the passing on of Military Veterans Hermanus Loots, also knows as "James Steward' in the ranks of uMkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans;.

Mr Hermanus Loots served in the military wing of the ANC uMkhonto we Sizwe in the early 1960's and fought alongside Chris Hani and many others in what came to be known as the Wanki Sipolilo campaign against the then Joint Rodesian and South African security forces in 1976

He served the young & old of uMkhonto we Sizwe with distinction, mentoring them in various skills, both politically and militarily in exile as as in the country. He also became a member of parliament under the then President Nelson Mandela, 1994-1999 as a member of the Joint Standing Committees of Defence.

The Department of Military Veterans and the military veterans community conveys its heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family as well as his friends.

May his soul rest in peace
