Deputy Minister to address the memorial service of Ms Martha Mahlangu

The Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Mr Thabang Makwetla will tomorrow at 11h00, address the memorial service in honour of the late Ms Martha Mahlangu at Moretele Park in Mamelodi East.

The late Ms Martha Mahlangu is the mother of Solomon Mahlangu who was executed on 06 April, 35 years ago by the apartheid regime. Ms Martha Mahlangu (89) had to endure the pain of awaiting the execution of his son
Solomon and a lot of harassment by the then apartheid police and security agents for standing by her son as well as her active involvement in the struggle for liberation.

Ms Martha Mahlangu is a quint essential symbol of bravery, commitment to freedom and democracy as the attainment of a non-sexist and non-racial South Africa. She has inspired many young people especially women for many decades.

By the directive of the President Mr Jacob Zuma, Ms Martha Mahlangu will be accorded the provincial state funeral and scores of people are expected to attend including amongst others, Cabinet Ministers, Provincial government
representative as well members of the bereaved family.

Ms Martha Mahlangu will be laid to rest on Saturday the 22 March 2014, in Mamelodi East.
