Vuyisile Mini Life and Work Project to be launched

The Department of Military Veterans have partnered with the Ray Alexandra Simons Memory Centre to launch the life and work of Vuyisile Mini, a regional commander of uMkhonto we Sizwe in Cape Province who was executed on 06 November 1964.

The project which is a theatrical play, will be launched at the Ray Alexandra Memory Centre on Steve Biko and Dr Moroka drive in Gugulethu, Cape Town at 15h30.

Amongst those who are expected to attend, is the Deputy Minister of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Marius Fransman, the families of Vuyisile Mini, Wilson Khayingo and Zimakile Mkhaba who were also hanged together with Vuyisile Mini in 1964. Representatives from the Department of Military Veterans, Department of Arts Culture including international guests will also be in attendance.

Vuyisile Mini who was hanged together with Wilson Khayingo and Zimakile Mkhaba, was the first Regional Commander of uMkhonto we Sizwe in the Cape Province and was hanged following a sabotage campaign that was undertaken in the early 1960s.

“Honouring Vuyisile Mini, as a Military Veteran constitutes part of our mandate as the Department of Military Veterans to honour, memorialize and preserve the heritage of Military Veterans. We hope this partnership with the Ray Alexandra Simons Memory Centre will go a long way in informing the youth and all sectors of society to know and understand the history and heritage especially as we celebrate 20 years of democracy, to which Military Veterans’ such as Vuyisile Mini played a significant role in bringing about democracy” said the Director General, Mr Tsepe Motumi.
