Women Military Veterans celebrate Women’s Month

Women Military Veterans are celebrating the Women’s month in the backdrop of the centenary of OR Tambo. The Department of Military Veterans hereby, invites Women Military Veterans as they celebrate the life and legacy of OR Tambo, the gathering is taking place on the 30th August 2017, at Emnotweni Casino, Nelspruit.

The Women Military Veterans Association of South Africa (WOMVASA) was officially launched in a two-day conference, of women Military Veterans at Mount Grace, Gauteng Province. The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa Nqakula, delivered a keynote address at the conference wherein she encouraged the 105 Women Military veterans delegates, to unite, be organized in order to ensure economic empowerment and advance women emancipation.

The conference further resolved that WOMVASA will, on behalf of women Military Veterans, engage the Ministry of Defence and Military Veterans, other government departments, state entities and all stakeholders to provide socio-economic support to women military veterans. To ensure that WOMVASA will work closely with the Department of Military Veterans to accelerate the delivery of benefits as stipulated in Sec 5 of the MV Act 18 of 2011. WOMVASA shall develop a short medium to long term programme of action to ensure the realisation of social and economic rights of women military veterans in society. And that WOMVASA will support the efforts of  the Department of Military Veterans and other stakeholders to speedily create a credible and reliable database.
