Briefing of the Joint Standing Committee on Military Veterans on Plans to turn the department around

The Minister of Defence & Military Veterans’ Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa –Nqakula,  to brief the Joint Standing Committee on Defence not the Portfolio Committee Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans on the Turnaround Strategic Initiatives for the DMV.

The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Ms. Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, will at 09h00 in Parliament, Cape Town brief the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans about the turnaround strategy developed and being implemented for the DMV.

The details of the briefing are as follows:

  • Time: 09h00 a.m.
  • Venue: Committee Room 2, 90 Plein Street, Cape Town

The Minister established the Turnaround Strategic Initiative on 1st September 2015, to help the DMV impove its capacity to amongst others deliver services and benefits to military veterans more effectively; to manage finances more efficiently and to avoid unauthorized, irregular and wasteful expenditure.

In the financial years 2013/14 and 2014/15 respectively, the Department was issued a disclaimer qualified findings by the Auditor General.

The Minister received numerous complaints from military veterans, which prompted her to introduce the Turnaround Strategic Initiative to help resolve  the challenges faced by the military veterans.
