Deputy Minister to deliver a keynote address in honour of Jabani "Lion of Chiawelo" Linda

Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Mr Kebby Maphatsoe will on Saturday 6 September deliver a keynote address at an open field next to Club 707 in White City Jabavu, Soweto to honour  Mr Jabani (Lion of Chiawelo) who was a combatant of Umkhonto we Sizwe(MK) who was killed in a skirmish against the Apartheid security forces in Chiawelo in 1980.

He joined MK in 1977 following the Soweto Student Uprisings that saw scores of young people leaving the country to join the liberation struggle. He received his military training In Angola. He then returned in 1980 to carry out missions assigned to him by MK.

Amongst those who are expected to speak at the occasion is the Chief of the SANDF General Solly Shoke, who, during the time worked with the late Mr Jabane Linda.

The commemoration constitutes part of the mandate of the Department of Military Veterans to Honour,memoralise and preserve the heritage of military veterans, both those are who are living and posthumously.
